映像の中で、二人の人間が向かい合い、会話をしている。二人は一言一句まったく同じセリフを発しているが、片方の音声は必ず逆再生されるため、会話は成立しない。
本作は『旧約聖書』の「バベルの塔」のエピソードから着想を得ている。世界中の人々が同一の言語や文化を共有していたなら、私たちは相互に理解し、協力し合えるのではないか——この物語はそのような希望を想起させる。しかし現実世界では、たとえ同じ言語を使っていたとしても、感覚や経験を完全に共有することはできず、そこには必ず認識のずれが生じる。
思考そのものが言語によって構築されている以上、他者と本当の意味で「わかり合う」ことは本質的に不可能なのかもしれない。
二人は意思疎通の「できなさ」を嘆きながらも、それでもなお、聴覚的・視覚的・精神的・身体的な接触の中に希望を見出そうともがく。私は、あらゆる人に自分の思いを理解してほしいと願うと同時に、他者のことを理解したいと強く願っている。

In the video, two people face each other and engage in a conversation. They speak exactly the same lines, word for word, yet one voice is always played in reverse, making communication impossible.
This work is inspired by the story of the Tower of Babel in the Old Testament. The narrative suggests a hopeful idea: that if all people shared the same language and culture, we might be able to truly understand one another and cooperate. However, in reality, even when we speak the same language, we cannot fully share our perceptions and experiences, and a gap in understanding inevitably emerges.
If our thinking itself is structured through language, then truly “understanding” another person may be fundamentally impossible.
The two figures lament their inability to communicate, yet they continue to struggle to find hope through auditory, visual, psychological, and physical forms of contact. I, too, desire for others to understand everything I think and feel, while at the same time wishing deeply to understand others.
